Our featured speaker: Carl
Jones is in management with the Chickasaw Container Services, a local intermodal trucking
company.
Carl was born and raised in Mobile, graduated from UMS and went on to LSU. During College hebecame involved with the US military and was commissioned a Lieutenant of the Marines in 1985. He
graduated from US Navy flight school and was selected to fly AV-8B Harrier Jump Jets. Through 12
years of active duty service with the Marines, Carl flew all over the world. His first combat experience
was flying air support and interdiction missions from the USS Nassau during Operation Desert Shield
/ Operation Desert Storm. He finished his service with the Marines as a Weapons and Tactics
instructor and finally as the Operations Officer for the Harrier training squadron. Carl separated from
the Marines in 1997 to get married, pursue a commercial flying career, and join the Alabama Air
National Guard.
Following the terrorist attacks in September 2001, Carl was activated again into full time
service with the USAF. He flew domestic combat air patrols in support of homeland security
efforts. He was given command of the 160th Fighter Squadron in October 2002. His
squadron deployed twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the
Bronze Star for combat leadership as his squadron spearheaded the Scud hunting efforts for
the coalition. Due to a unique weapon/sensor mix on his squadron aircraft, he was also
honored to play a pivotal role in the second battle of Fallujah during the fall of 2004.
Carl retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the summer of 2005 and moved back to Mobile just
in time for the hurricane season, where he and his wife Laura now live with their 7 year old
daughter.
I’m sure you won’t want to miss hearing what Carl has to share, so be sure to mark August 14th on your calendars to attend Hot Dogs at the Hank.
